Tips

Be specific in the item description. A serial number or VIN is what makes the document identify one particular item rather than a category of them.
Both parties should sign and date in person, and each should leave with an original. A signed copy that only one side holds is worth much less if the sale is disputed.
Check your state requirements before the meeting, particularly for vehicles, where notarisation and a separate odometer statement are common.
Record the payment method accurately. Cash sales especially benefit from a document that states the amount was received in full.
